  • Just two days after candidates could begin filing their nominating petitions for the  primary election next March, somecontests are shaping up for the Quad Cities and northwestern Illinois.

  • Thanks to the local option sales tax, the Moline School District has some money to spend on renovations

  • Members of the Scott County Board have mixed feelings about a proposal by the city of Walcott to set up a tax increment financing district for the I-80 Truck Stop. State law requires the city only to consult with the county board and other affected taxing bodies, but their approval is not required.

  • Two years after Iowa raised its gas tax, the state is seeing a flurry of new roadway projects at a time when national infrastructure efforts have stalled. Officials say the extra revenue has allowed the state to move forward quickly with overdue bride repairs and plans for major highway projets. Iowa passed its 10-cent-per-gallon increase in February 2015. A recent analysis shows the tax has generated an extra $515 million for projects in all 99 counties. — Associated Press
