A lot of the literal groundwork has been done on Rock Island County's $28 million Criminal Justice Center annex. The three-story building will include four courtrooms and offices for court administration, the circuit clerk, and the state's attorney and his staff.
"This is the brightest day for Rock Island County that we have seen in years." That's what Chief Judge Walter Braud said this afternoon, as he and county officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new annex to the justice center.
With early voting beginning in Illinois later this week, Rock Island County officials are asking voters one last time to approve a sales tax increase. If approved, the sales tax would increase by half-a-percent, to pay for public safety.
