Veterans, their families, and other local residents gathered on Arsenal Island today for the annual Veteran's Day ceremony in the National Cemetery. It included speeches, placing of a wreath, and an honor salute.
One of the speakers was Iowa Second District Congressman Dave Loebsack, who shared his personal connection to Veteran's Day.
Lieutenant General Michael Tucker also honored veterans who have "given the ultimate sacrifice for their country."
Tucker is currently the 37th commander of First Army based on Arsenal Island. He says less than one percent of the nation is serving in the Armed Forces, and it's important for them to have our support.
Other events honoring veterans in the Quad Cities today were held in Milan, East Moline, and Bettendorf, plus the annual parade in downtown Davenport.
