Union and BHC Reach Tentative Agreement

After several months of talks, Black Hawk College may be close to signing a new contract with one of its unions. The college and faculty reached a tentative agreement Tuesday with help from a federal mediator.

President Joan Eastlund says the union represents 150 full-time faculty and 50 professional and technical employees.
Their 4 year contract was scheduled to expire last summer, but remained in force while negotiations continued.
She hopes the union will be able to ratify the proposed contract so it can go to the Black Hawk board of trustees in time for its next meeting on November 20th.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
