Hoping to dispel any fears about possible cheating or miscounting, the Rock Island County Clerk held a demonstration this morning to show how voting machines are tested to insure accuracy. Earlier this week, someone posted an anonymous video showing a voter trying to select republican candidates, only to have the machine select democrats instead.
County Clerk Karen Kinney says voters shouldn't be concerned - because very few complaints were received, and because voters have the option to check how they voted before their ballot is tabulated by the machine.
But Rock Island County Republican Chairman Bill Bloom still isn't convinced.
Kinney says her staff re-calibrates voting machines before every election, and whenever necessary. And that includes going to the Moline Library last week after receiving a complaint that the machines weren't working.
Today, her office also made sure no votes have been miscounted in what is called a logic and accuracy test. Kinney says this test is legally required on the Thurday before election day. Kinney says she has no way of manipulating the votes because the voting software is federally mandated.
