The state of Iowa may "throw the book" at Davenport Superintendent Art Tate. But not until next year.
Monday the Board of Educational Examiners filed a formal charge that he allowed the district to spend more than permitted by law.
And it scheduled a hearing for next February, more than five months from now.
Iowa's school funding formula requires Davenport to spend 175 dollars less per student than other districts in the state. And Doctor Tate has worked hard in recent years to publicize this disparity, and try to convince the legislature to change the formula.
According to the official complaint by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, quote, he " purposefully and publicly advocated for the Davenport School Board to exceed its lawful spending authority, based upon his belief that the Iowa school funding formula is unfair and should be amended."
Tate could lose his license, and his job, depending on the result of this case.
