Polls are open in west Davenport for Tuesday's special election. Residents of state House District 89 will choose a successor to democrat Jim Lykam who won a special election for the Iowa Senate last month.
Retired college teacher and counselor Monica Kurth is the democratic candidate running against republican Mike Gonzales who's a sergeant for the LeClaire Police Department.
Polls opened at 7 am and will close at 9 pm.
