Shutdown Update for Arsenal Workers

Thousands of workers on Arsenal Island will be affected by a government shutdown - if there is one. The general instruction from the various commands on the island, as of this afternoon, is for employees to report for work Tuesday morning. Then, if Congress has not agreed on funding for the federal government as the new fiscal year begins, workers will be sent home.

Dan Carlson, from the Army Sustainment Command, estimates a total of 3,000 people will be affected, and they'll have to stay home as long as the shutdown lasts.

But one group NOT affected will be those at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center. Spokesman Rhys Fullerlove says since their work is funded by prior appropriations, they'll continue working until funding for their projects runs out. The JMTC has about 12-hundred civilian workers.
