Some pre-schoolers in Moline will receive a new pair of sneakers tomorrow. The Moline Breakfast Optimist Club will give shoes to more than 90 children ages three to five, at Jefferson Early Childhood Center, for its fifteenth annual "Shoes that Fit" program.
Director of the Optimist Club, Pat Wendt, says its members raise money each year to buy new shoes for needy children.
The Jefferson Center chooses around 100 students every year who need a new pair of shoes. The Optimist Club asks for donations outside of Walmart a few days each year, then club members buy the shoes at a discounted price.
Wendt says the club raises about 800 dollars on a given fundraising day, hoping parents will donate to the program.
The Optimist Club also raises money every winter to buy coats, hats, and gloves for children in need at Jefferson.
