Scott Co. Park Pool Renovations Include New Entryway, Remodeled Locker Rooms

It took twelve years of working in phases to update the Scott County Park Pool. This week, the Board of Conservation and supervisors cut a ribbon to celebrate the completion of the $2.5 million project.

Roger Kean, Executive Director of the Scott County Conservation Board, says the pool was originally built in 1970. By 2004, its mechanical systems had begun to fail. And estimates to replace it totaled $3.4 million. But Kean says the pool and its plumbing were in good shape.

Work began in 2005 and progressed over the years to include new water slides, spray pads, a new concession stand and picnic area, and new diving boards.

In the past, the Scott County Conservation Board had to subsidize operating costs. But now Kean says the pool generates annual revenue of $210,000, and it's self-sustaining. Attendance has more than doubled to 40,000 swimmers a year.
