Rock Island Mayor Pauley Gives State of City Address

WVIK Staff

Despite harsh temperatures, flooding, and fires, 2014 was a good year for Rock Island. That was the message today  from Mayor Dennis Pauley during his annual state of the city address to a joint meeting of Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

Last year, Rock Island was forced to make unexpected repairs to streets after flooding and extreme cold temperatures. And, a fire in September damaged some downtown buildings.
The city also made improvements to public facilities, such as libraries, the King Center, and the new MetroLink station. And downtown, twenty businesses expanded or opened for the first time.

For the future, Mayor Pauley says Rock Island will continue to focus on development- including the completion of the new police station, the Unity Point Health hospital, and more downtown apartments.

And this year, for the fourth year in a row, property taxes will stay the same in Rock Island. Mayor Pauley says maintaining financial stability will be one of his priorities this year.
