After three years and a lot of changes, Bill Bloom will step down as Chair of the Rock Island County GOP. He's retired but has accepted a contract position with Deere and Company.
Bloom was first elected after the 2014 primary election. He says over the last five elections, GOP candidates have won eight seats on the Rock Island County Board.
"Make them realize there's a stronger republican presence in Rock Island County than traditionally proposed. That's helped more people try harder and do more things. In recent months, people have told me they thought they were the only ones."
In addition, two of the three members of the Illinois General Assembly from the Quad Cities area are now republicans. Bloom hopes to continue working as a precinct committeeman, knocking on doors, volunteering, and writing letters to the editor.
"What we need to do in Rock Island County is to keep our base active, encourage more volunteerism, and continue to hammer the issues in Illinois. Property taxes are killing us."
He thinks one of his biggest contributions was to improve the group's communication methods, information technology, and databases.
Bloom will also advise the new Rock Island County Republican Party Chair after an election at next month's Central Committee meeting. His last day as chair will be March 31st. Mike Steffen will serve as acting chair in the interim.
