River Drive in Moline Will Stay Closed

WVIK Staff

A blocked street in Moline is going to stay blocked all winter. Today the Illinois Department of Transportation announced River Drive at I-74 will NOT re-open as planned this month.

When the work began several months ago to re-construct River Drive from 19th to 23rd Street, officials said it would be completed in December. But now, because of the cold weather, paving work will be suspended for the winter.
For motorists that means the River Drive entrance ramp to I-74 will stay closed, and the section of River Drive from 19th Street to the ramp will stay closed. The good news is the exit ramp for traffic coming from Iowa will probably re-open next week, allowing traffic to leave the highway, and go east on River Drive.
This is the first project on the Illinois side of the river that's part of the preparations for a new I-74 bridge across the Mississippi.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
