A third college has been added to a scholarship program offered by the Quad Cities River Bandits. Wednesday team officials announced the gift of $15,000 to the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.
It will pay the tuition for a second year student at any of the college district's three campuses - in Muscatine, the Quad Cities, and Clinton.
Eastern Iowa President Don Doucette says the River Bandits Scholarship shows the shared commitment of the team to the Quad Cities.
"As a place that attracts, recruits, and retains talent, especially youthful talent. Because we know the future of our organizations and communities depend upon that talent. And things like scholarships, education programs, and the amenities provided here by the River Bandits matter."
Team owners Dave Heller and Roby Smith have previously given similar gifts to Augustana College and Saint Ambrose University, for a total commitment now (with EICC) of nearly $80,000 a year.
The new gift adds to the current campaign by the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges to raise 1 million dollars for scholarships, as it raises money to build the new downtown Davenport campus of Scott Community College - it's expected to open for classes early 2018.
