Perhaps a collective sigh of relief could be heard in cars and trucks in the Quad Cities late this morning. That's when the Corps of Engineers on Arsenal Island announced the Government Bridge camera is up and running again.
During navigation season, many drivers rely on the river web cam to decide which bridge to take across the Mississippi River. The camera shows whether the Government Bridge swing span is open for towboats and barges which means it's not available to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Unlike many webcams, the Mississippi River camera above Lock and Dam 15 is not continuously live. It shows still images and automatically refreshes every 30 seconds.
Information Technology employees who work for the corps' Rock Island District had to move the camera to a different server to fix the problem. The new web address to view it is HERE.
