A fight over property taxes in Rock Island County will next go to a state appellate court. On Tuesday, the Moline School District filed a notice of appeal in its lawsuit against Elliott Aviation.
Last year, the governor of Illinois signed a law granting a permanent property tax exemption to the company for the land it leases at the Quad City Airport. The school district went to court, arguing the exemption is unconstitutional but a local judge, Frank Fuhr, ruled in favor of Elliott last December, and again on Monday he denied a request to re-consider.
Joining the school district in the lawsuit is the Coal Valley Fire Protection District. The case now goes to the Illinois Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa.
