Police Memorial

Police officers who died in the line of duty will be honored this weekend. The annual Quad Cities Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will begin tonight with an officers appreciation dinner, and end Sunday afternoon with a memorial service.

A monument with the names of fallen officers is located at the Rock Island County Justice Center. And Troy Sullivan, president of the memorial group, says they've worked hard during the past two years to search out all the possible names, within a 50-mile radius of the Quad Cities.

"And we've discovered in the last two years a total of 5 names that no one could remember. Some were from small towns, and those 5 names were added to our monument this past week."

Sullivan says the monument now has a total of 46 names, dating back to 1869. The most recent is Stark County Deputy Adam Streicher who died in 2002.

The dinner tonight is being held at the Eldridge Community Center. The memorial service begins at 1 pm Sunday at Heritage Church in Bettendorf - participants will then motorcade to the monument in Rock Island.
