Pearl Harbor Day

The Milan American Legion will honor two veterans for their service when Pearl Harbor was attacked. This weekend's ceremony will be held at Legion Hall on 1st Avenue, where people can meet the two Iowa residents who survived the bombing.

Alvis Taylor of Davenport was a dispatcher who coordinated ambulance runs for transporting victims of the attack. And Eldon Baxter of LeClaire was aboard the USS West Virginia on December 6th, 1944. His parents were told he died, but he contacted them by Christmas to tell them the good news that he had survived.
The Milan American Legion will honor Taylor and Baxter on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Tonal Insanity quartet will perform, singing  World War Two songs, and a military style meal will be served featuring "SOS," or creamed beef on toast.
