City officials in Davenport will celebrate new life for an old school. Tomorrow morning, the Jackson Renaissance, once the Jackson School on West 16th Street, will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate the official opening of affordable apartments for seniors.
Jeanmarie Kapp, CEO of The Renaissance Companies, says the apartments have been fully renovated, with elevators, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and other amenities.
"The school itself is a beautiful historic building. It was built in 1893, and then a new addition was added in 1902, and we had done a historic preservation of a very similar school, the Taylor School at Warren & 15th Street in 2010 and 2011."
Kapp says residents can take advantage of monthly workshops and social events, like raffles, live music, and dancing. The Jackson Renaissance has 48 apartments, and 34 of them are already occupied.
