From now on, you can visit the Columbian rainforest and not leave the Quad Cities. Today, the Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley opened its new rainforest-themed exhibit, called "Jungle Trek Discovery Center."
The indoor exhibit recreates a South American rainforest by using natural light, plants, and soil. It also features species native to South America such a two-toed sloth and two Cotton-Top Tamarins.
The project cost $93,000.
Zoo Director, Marc Heinzman, hopes "Jungle Trek Discovery Center" will help visitors understand more about rainforests and why they should be preserved.
