New Look for Trash Cart Lids in Moline

Now that thousands of trash carts in Moline have new lids, it's time to put something on them. This week, National Cart Marketing is placing advertising on the special lids that were installed last month.

Company president, Phil Bonello, says the first ads are for health care, plumbing supplies, and foundation repairs, plus a pizza give-away.

And part of the lid is reserved for messages and information from the city.

Bonello says his company has placed similar trash lids with advertising in five cities in Indiana, and is in the process of setting up programs in 3 cities in Michigan.

As he says, "it's like direct mail, without the mail."

Last year, Moline and National Cart Marketing set up a pilot program in several neighborhoods, and based on its success, are making it city-wide this year. The one change is a different, and much lower profile, lid that's also much lighter.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
