New I-74 Bridge on Schedule

Iowa Department of Transportation

Even though bridge construction is still at least two years away, the project to replace the I-74 bridge across the Mississippi River is on schedule. Project Manager, Doug Rick from the Iowa Department of Transportation, will give an update this afternoon to the Bi-State Regional Commission.

Rick says fixing River Drive in downtown Moline will be completed this year, and road work will begin soon on State and Grant streets in downtown Bettendorf.
The Bettendorf project will be finished next year (2016).

Rick says all the design work is nearly completed, and overall, the project is on schedule. He says work on the new bridge will probably begin in the second half of 2017, starting with building new piers in the river.
The cost of the overall project, from Avenue of the Cities in Moline to Middle Road in Bettendorf, including a new bridge, is now estimated at $750 million.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
