Downtown Rock Island is now home to an education center where people can learn how to buy a house, car, or make other investments.
On Wednesday, state representatives, local officials, and CEO's cut the ribbon for the new Regional Housing and Financial Education Center at 114 19th street.
Brian Hollenback, President and CEO of Economic Growth Corporation, says the housing center will help people free of charge with buying a home, renting an apartment, buying a car, or even starting a business.
"In a time of challenge, we want this center to be a beacon specifically for our Illinois residents in Rock Island -- that they do not feel trapped, that this is a great community to live."
The center was paid for with tax credits and a money from a community benefit agreement -- which requires developers to provide specific resources to underserved communities.
