Residents living alongside the Mississippi River now have a chance to show the world what defines this region.This week, representatives from National Geographic will be in the Quad Cities, to talk about the Mississippi River Geotourism Project.
Project Coordinator, Terry Eastin, says National Geographic is looking for unique landmarks, restaurants, and businesses along the Mississippi River. Residents can nominate attractions, for inclusion on the interactive MapGuide website.
The website is set to launch next summer.
And, Joe Taylor, President of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau, says people around the world will have access to information about the Mississippi River.
He says four community outreach meetings this week will give residents another opportunity to learn about the project. But, you don't have to attend the meetings to nominate an attraction.
There is a meeting tonight at LeClaire City Hall, and tomorrow at the Bier Stube in Moline at 11 am, the Establishment Theatre in Rock Island at 1:30 pm, and the Isle Center in Bettendorf at 3:30 pm.
