Mr. Thanksgiving is "showing the ropes" to his protege, while getting ready to serve turkey to thousands of people. Bob Vogelbaugh says third grader, Isaac Rumler, plans to become Mr. Thanksgiving Junior in four years.
Vogelbaugh says two weeks ago, Rumler's parents got a surprise when he unexpectedly told reporters about their son's plans. But the Moline man and former school board member has talked with the Rumlers since then, and they're okay with it.
About 2,000 people attended last year's Thanksgiving dinner at South Park Mall in Moline. Vogelbaugh says it's not charity. It's for anyone who would otherwise be alone on Thanksgiving Day, and everyone is welcome.
Volunteers who want to help set up tables should go to the area near Von Maur tomorrow at 9 am. But most volunteers will arrive at 3 pm to help serve the meal, and talk with people who come alone. Dinner will be served from 4 until 6 pm.
Donations may be mailed to Mr. Thanksgiving at 3704 26th Street, Moline, Illinois 61265.
