Miss. Valley Fair Landmark Renovated

Mississippi Valley Fair

Renovations have been completed at a nearly 100 year old landmark in west Davenport. Just in time for this year's fair, the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds has re-furbished the Twin Towers.

General Manager Shawn Loter  says it first opened for the first fair in 1920, and since it's one of the main gates for the fairgrounds, the building is an important symbol of the fair.

"We've gotten a lot of good response from this. Everyone's so happy and excited that we refurbished it because a lot of people thought we were going to tear it down."

The Twin Towers building is now mainly used for offices, and renovations cost 300,000 dollars.

This year's Mississippi Valley Fair opens tomorrow (tues 8/1) and runs through Sunday (8/6).

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
