After using borrowed meeting sites for the last year, a local congregation has found a new home. This weekend, the Metropolitan Community Church will dedicate its new church in Davenport.
Reverend Rich Hendricks says after a long search, they bought a former Blockbuster video store in the 29-hundred block of West Locust Street.
Another top priority was to be handicapped accessible, so everything had to be on one floor. He also wanted space for their social activities, and community outreach, including their "feed the hungry ministry" and a meeting site for Alcoholics Anonymous.
Hendricks says the old Blockbuster sign has been saved, and the company's logo incorporated into the church's logo.
The Metropolitan Community Church will hold an open house tomorrow from 2 to 6 pm, and then dedicate the new building on Sunday at 11 am.
