Mallards Open Training Camp

The Quad City Mallards have officially begun preparing for the new season - their 21st overall, and fourth in the ECHL. Training camp opened Sunday, and will last for two weeks.

Team spokesman Brian Lavelle says about 30 players will attend training camp, but by opening day the roster will have to be trimmed to 21. Usually that's 2 goalies, 7 or so defensemen, and the rest forwards.

"It all depends on what a coach wants to do, and also what he has available to him in terms of talent at the positions. And what he might have for versatile players - guys who play in a couple of spots. Coming into camp, the Mallards have a couple of guys who can play both forward and defense."

Training camp began Sunday at the River's Edge in downtown Davenport, and will be held there until next week, when practices will move to the TaxSlayer Center in Moline.

The Mallards open the new ECHL season on Friday October 13th, hosting the Toledo Walleye.
