July Unemployment

Unemployment has fallen again in the Quad Cities. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the rate fell from 6.8 per cent in July of last year, to 6.6 per cent last month.

Spokesman Tom Austin says job losses in construction, government, and education, were more than offset by gains in leisure and hospitalilty, and professional and business services - that category includes temporary employment agencies.

The last time unemployment in July in the Quad Cities was this low or lower was in 2008.

The lowest rates in Illinois were 6.5 per cent, in both Bloomington and Springfield, while the highest rates last month were reported by both Danville and Decatur - at 9.5 per cent.
