John Deere Middle School Reacts to Safety Scares

A school in Moline wants to keep its children safe after two possible attempted abductions. John Deere Middle School has sent a letter home to parents with safety tips, after students were approached by strangers on the way to the school and Wilson Middle School.

Principal Scott Verstraete says many of the tips may seem like common sense to adults, but may not be for children.

SVERST1 :16 ...them about issues."(Travel in #s, communicate with family)

On August 23rd, a man grabbed a young girl who was walking to her first day at John Deere Middle School. Verstraete says luckily the girl was able to run away, and do the right thing by telling her teachers what happened.

SVERST2 :17 ...encourage those relationships."(Tell adult, build relationships)

The person responsible for the incident at John Deere Middle School is still at large. But the man who approached the girl on the way to Wilson Middle School in Moline has been arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
