With just three weeks left until the Illinois primary, republican challenger Jeanne Ives brought her campaign for governor to the Quad Cities Friday.
She told a crowd of local party members in Moline that incumbent Bruce Rauner has lied about abortion, taxes, and immigration, and that she's the "real republican" they should vote for.
"Our challenge is to lead the revolt. It's gut-wrenching, hard work but we're already resonating with voters, we're already connecting dots with them in other ways."
Ives says the democratic candidates for governor are so un-appealing, republicans have a golden opportunity to elect what she calls "a conservative reform governor."
And she says she's the one who will stand up for taxpayers in Illinois.
"You're tired of the public corruption. You're tired of seeing your money wasted. You're tired of 2-4 million dollar pensions with public servants who retire in their early 60's with 3 % compounded COLA's and you can't even afford to put money away for your own retirement."
Joining Ives was her lieutenant governor running mate - former state representative and current member of the Rock Island County board, Rich Morthland.
Late Friday she planned to hold a similar meet and greet event with local republicans in Galesburg, before heading to stops this weekend in Pinkneyville, Sparta, Nashville, and Altamont.
