Several eastern Iowa and western Illinois cities are among the best places to live in America. That's according to the NerdWallet credit card blog this week, which ranked small cities based on affordability, economic health, and quality of life.
NerdWallet looked at 13-hundred cities, with less than 75,000 residents, and among the top finishers is Galesburg, listed at number 18. The city had one of the lowest median costs for monthly home owners.
Also ranking high on the list, Dubuque came in at number 27, because of its lower poverty level. And, Rock Island is ranked at number 32.
To rank each city, NerdWallet assigned scores based on median rent price, unemployment rates, poverty levels, commuting times, and other factors. Cities in the Midwest, and college towns, generally scored highest in these rankings.
