Frank Ross, Mud Artist

Paintings created with mud from the Mississippi River are on display at the Bettendorf Public Library this month.

The artist, Frank Ross from East Moline, worked as an electrician for decades after graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. And he kept painting throughout his career.

But when he retired, Ross started to experiment with different colors of mud from the river. Now, Ross has buckets and buckets of mud collected from Saint Paul to Saint Louis.

Ross volunteers now, teaching students, club members, and others how he paints with mud.

On Saturday at 7 pm, he's scheduled to demonstrate his technique at Fisherman's Corner Campground, just north of Hampton. And his mud paintings will be displayed at the Bettendorf library until the end of the month.
