The annual celebration of "water trails" in the Quad Cities this weekend will also include the annual attempt to break a world record. Participants in Floatzilla will gather on Saturday afternoon to challenge the world record for "largest connected raft of canoes and kayaks."
River Action executive director, Kathy Wine, says she started Floatzilla four years ago to promote the many opportunities in this area for paddling.
"It's fun to meet other paddlers and tour with them. The fun of having a burger boat - you paddle up to it and get a harmburger - that's fun. And we have good music."
Early registrations for Floatzilla come from 14 states, from Maryland and Ohio, to Arizona and Colorado, and one person comes from France.
The world record attempt will be on Saturday at 2 pm in Lake Potter in Sunset Park in Rock Island - the current record, set just last year in upstate New York is 19-hundred-and-2.Wine says in the first year, the group of canoes and kayaks in Lake Potter totalled 930. And it reached 15-hundred-and-30 last year.
