Fire Closes Davenport Restaurant

Lunardi's Restaurant

Fire severely damaged a Davenport restaurant early Thursday. The Quad City Times reports firefighters went to Lunardi's Restaurant about 4 am and found the kitchen fully engulfed in flames.

It's located in a strip mall near North Park Mall.

Firefighters were able to protect adjoining businesses, but the restaurant is a total loss.

Owners of Lunardi's posted this message on their Facebook page this morning:
"We are sad to announce there was a fire in our restaurant this morning. We will be closed until further notice. If you or anyone you may know has placed a order for the holidays we will be unable to fill it. The fire destroyed our records so we are unable to contact these customers. Please help us by sharing this post so these families can make other arrangements for the holidays. We will do our best to re open as soon as possible."

The Davenport Fire Department says the cause has not yet been determined.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
