Figge launches mobile audio tour

Using a phone, visitors to the Figge Art Museum in Davenport can learn more about  some of the art works. It now offers a mobile audio tour - available by calling a special phone number, or using a smartphone to scan a QR code.
Marketing coordinator, Natalie Dunlop, says the recorded descriptions are each about 2 minutes long.

For example, the cast bronze art piece at the Figge called "Half-Moon" by Deborah Butterfield is part of the mobile audio tour. Voiced by Susan Quail, the audio excerpt explains how the horse sculpture is created step by step.

Wood is sent to foundry, cast in bronze.

So far about 40 art works are included on the mobile audio tour, but more will be added soon, including some of the traveling exhibits.

Most permanent exhibits at the Figge are part of the Mobile Audio Tour and include a call number and QR Code.

The descriptions are written by Figge staff, and voiced by various local residents, including the director of the museum, artists, and a Davenport alderman.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
