People who work on Arsenal Island will probably enjoy less traffic for the next month or two. The garrison has closed the intersection outside the Rock Island gate for road work. It also closed that gate and opened the Davenport Gate.
Spokesman Eric Cramer says the intersection is where Fort Armstrong Avenue, Rock Island Avenue, and the Rock Island viaduct meet.
Drivers who don't have business on the island should take a different bridge to travel between Davenport and Rock Island.
But Cramer says pedestrians and bicycle riders will be allowed to use the American Discovery Trail to cross the Mississippi River.
The intersection on Arsenal Island is expected to re-open in late May or early June.
