Disabilities Career Fair

Employers and agencies in the Quad Cities have partnered to help residents with physical and mental disabilities find jobs. The Quad-Cities Corporate Partners and the Quad-Cities Disability Employment Network will host their 21st Annual Career Fair For People With Disabilities on Monday, April 7.

Tom Lowery from the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services, says attendees can receive job advice and ask questions.

"A lot of times, people with disabilities are reluctant to do on their own or employers, sometimes, really, they still have these ideas about people with disabilities."

Lowery says about twenty employers will participate in the fair, including Jewel-Osco, Manpower, and Mediacom. There will be a workshop at 9am on how job seekers can improve their resumes and use social media in their search.

"They're able to come to this career fair, and when they leave, they're very confident in themselves. They've talked to employers, and they've found out that empoloyers don't bite. It's helped the self-esteem of a lot of people in the Quad Cities that have disabilities."

Lowery says the fair has helped attendees get hired in the past. The 21st Annual Career Fair for People with Disabilities will be held at the i Wireless Center in Moline from 9 am to noon Monday, April 7.
