Decision Possible on Hope Creek

Rock Island County

The Rock Island County board may soon decide what to do with the county nursing home. Last week, board members discussed four options for the Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, and a vote is possible Tuesday night.

Steve Meersman is chairman of the board's Health and Human Services Committee which oversees Hope Creek. He says the four options include creating an independent board to run it in place of the county board, create an independent board which would hire an outside management company, lease it to a private company, or put it up for sale.

Thanks to help from employees, Meersman says its finances are improving and he hopes Rock Island County will continue to own and operate Hope Creek.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
