People in wheelchairs will soon be able to ride the Ferris wheel at Modern Woodmen Park. Today, Genesis Health System announced a $50,000 gift to make the ride accessible for people with disabilities.
Davenport City Administrator Craig Malin says right now, there's too big a gap between the loading platform and gondolas for people in wheelchairs to get on the ride safely. The gap is five inches, but federal law requires no more than 3 inches.
But, the Ferris wheel will soon have a new gondola that's safe for wheelchair users.

Malin says last year, three people complained because they were unable to ride the Ferris wheel. But once it re-opens in May, they will be able to join the 68,000 people who rode it last year.
The project is a collaboration between the City of Davenport, the River Bandits, and Genesis Health System.
