Davenport Breaks Ground on First Land-Based Casino

WVIK Staff

Construction is finally underway in Davenport for a land-based casino. Thursday, Rhythm City Casino Resort broke ground for its new casino, near the intersection of Interstate 80 and I-74.

Nearly one-hundred people drove up the recently-poured concrete of Elmore Avenue, and celebrated on the 40-acres the casino will soon occupy.
Casino owner Dan Kehl says he never thought this day would come.

Dan Kehl, owner of Rhythm City Casino in Davenport, speaks before breaking ground for the new location.

Kehl says the 110-million-dollar project was made possible by a three-way agreement with the city of Davenport and the Riverboat Development Authority, which owns the license. It will include a gaming floor, sports lounge, retail shops, restaurants, and an event center.

He says the new Rhythm City Casino's design will reflect the Mississippi River, and it should open next May.
