A plan to combine or eliminate some of the city's boards and commissions will be considered Wednesday night by the Davenport city council. Mayor Frank Klipsch says his goal is to close the boards and commissions that are no longer needed, and re-align those that are still important.
He says it's hard to get volunteers and staff for several of them, and there are some that haven't even met in years.
One proposal on the agenda would eliminate, or "de-commission," the Airport Commission, Commission on Youth, Youth Advisory Commission, Adult Crossing Guard Commission, and the Sustainable Environment and Technology Advisory Commission.
A more controversial proposal from the mayor would combine the Levee Commission, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the advisory board for the River Center and Adler Theater - the new board would have eleven members, with one each appointed by the mayor and aldermen.
