Credit Island Lodge Restoration

Davenport may soon ask for bids to re-build the lodge on Credit Island. Tonight the city council will be asked to approve the project, recommended by a citizens task force.

After a fire severely damaged the lodge last May, an advisory committee called Friends of Credit Island concluded it should be repaired instead of demolished. Stanley Consultants of Muscatine designed the project that will cost up to 1.2 million dollars - that's the amount of money Davenport received from its insurance company following the fire. The goal is to make the lodge flood-resistant, and restore it as much as possible to the way it looked before.

If aldermen approve, the city would go out for bids in April, award a contract in May, and the project could be completed by November. The lodge was built in the 1920's.
