Congressman Lane Evans, Champion of Veterans Rights, Dies

A longtime champion of veterans, family farmers, and working people has died. Last night, former 17th district Congressman Lane Evans passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Evans was first elected in 1982 and served on the Veterans, Agriculture, and Armed Services Committees.
Mike Mahlmstrom, who became Evans' power of attorney in 2007,  says the congressman earned many titles, but preferred to just be called "Lane."

Mahlmstrom says a memorial service and funeral will be held at Esterdahl's in Moline.

Congressman Lane Evans will be buried at the Rock Island Arsenal.

A date and time has not yet been announced.
