Clinton Augustana Partnership

Starting in the fall, students from Augustana College will help the city of Clinton with a variety of environmental, economic, and social projects. Today the two announced a partnership to promote "sustainability."

Michael Reisner, director of the college's Upper Mississippi Center, says Clinton chose 12 projects for the students, including one with the fire department.
Students will also develop a plan to manage trees and parks in the city. at risk from the emerald ash borer now, and possibly other threats in the future.

Will develop a "made in Clinton" campaign.

Reisner estimates up to 300 students will participate in the Clinton partnership next year, through classes in local history, accounting, business and marketing, environmental studies, and communications.

This is the first sustainability project undertaken by the Upper Mississippi Center, and while the work in Clinton goes on, the center will prepare for its second project with another nearby city or county to start in the fall of next year.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
