Chris Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy, is the latest Democrat to announce a bid for Illinois governor.

Chris Kennedy announced on Wednesday he will run for Illinois governor in 2018 in what's shaping up to be a crowded race for Democrats vying to take on Republican Governor Bruce Rauner.

Kennedy is a Chicago-based businessman who serves as chairman of the Kennedy family's investment firm. He's a former chairman of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees and founder of a nonprofit organization that works to eliminate food deserts in the Chicago area.

He spoke with Lacy Scarmana about why he's running for governor and what he hopes to accomplish in the state.
