She didn't get everything she wanted, but Cheri Bustos is still happy with her committee assignments. The new congresswoman for Illinois' 17th District learned today she's been chosen for the House Agriculture Committee. She also requested the Transportation Committee, and was assigned to it last month, but did not get picked for Armed Services.
Bustos says farming is the number one industry in her district. She also thinks being a member of the Transportation Committee will compliment many issues she considers on the Ag Committee, and help her promote key projects such as building a new I-74 bridge.
In the 24 hours since she was sworn in, Bustos has spent time talking with other new House members about how both parties can work together, better than in the previous session. She also hopes to organize a retreat for House members to promote bi-partisanship.
