Bids Approved for Central High School Projects

Nearly one year after initially considering the project, the Davenport School Board has approved plans to build a new swimming pool and auditorium at Central High School. Monday night it awarded bids totaling 21 million dollars.

District spokeswoman Dawn Saul says the new auditorium will seat up to 900 people, and the pool will have eight lanes plus a diving well, similar to pools at North and West high schools.
And she says ground will be broken for the project sometime this summer.

Last year, the Davenport district hired CSO Architects from Indianapolis to design the  project, but when bids came in more than 4 million dollars over its estimated cost, the board fired CSO and eventually hired a Davenport firm, Larrison and Associates.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
