Augustana Groundbreaking

Work will begin next month on a major make-over of the football stadium at Augustana College in Rock Island. Today, the college held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Austin Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex.
College president Steve Bahls says the top quality football program deserves a first class facility.
The new complex will have several components, starting with a new grandstand on what is now the visitors side of the field. The three story building will include new seats, locker rooms, offices, a press room and suites for viewing the games.
Another part of the new complex will be in the northwest corner of the current stadium - the Ken Anderson Academic All America Club, the Player's Plaza, and the Viking Patio and Overlook.
Completion is scheduled for next September, for the first home football game of next season.
