Auction for Moline Elementary School

Moline School District

For the second time in two months, the Moline School District is preparing to sell an old school. Tuesday is the deadline to submit sealed bids for Garfield School.

In December, Heritage Church was the only bidder for Ericsson School. The district is selling both, and will send many of their students to Hamilton School which is being extensively re-modeled and expanded and will re-open in the fall.
Like Ericsson, the minimum bid for Garfield is 50,000 dollars, due by 2 pm on Tuesday.
Built in 1901, Garfield has more than 37,000 square feet, sits on 2.3 acres, and is  located in the 15-hundred block of 25th Avenue, in Moline.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
